GUITAR

COURSE OUTLINE

WEEKLY PRIVATE LESSONS

Our guitar program is designed with one clear goal: helping students sound great and enjoy the process of learning music. Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests while building strong technical fundamentals. We prioritize proper hand positioning, clear weekly goals, and learning music that students are genuinely excited to practice. Students may pursue one of the following focus areas, or combine multiple styles as they advance.

Classical Guitar:

Students focusing on classical guitar develop proper hand position, fingerstyle technique, music reading fluency, tone refinement, and dynamic control. Repertoire is carefully selected to build technical strength, articulation, phrasing, and interpretive depth. Classical students gain a strong theoretical foundation and disciplined practice habits that support advanced musicianship and formal performance opportunities. For students interested in finger-picking.

Jazz Guitar:

Jazz students cultivate harmonic understanding, chord voicings, scale application, rhythmic flexibility, and improvisational fluency. Instruction emphasizes swing feel, stylistic interpretation, and ensemble awareness while developing a deep understanding of harmony and form. Students learn to confidently comp, solo, and collaborate in both small group and larger ensemble settings. For students interested in soloing and more advanced chords.

Contemporary and Top 40:

Students who choose a contemporary focus explore modern repertoire across pop, rock, and singer songwriter styles. Many enjoy learning rock influenced material inspired by artists such as Green Day and AC/DC, as well as chord based songs in the style of Taylor Swift, Bob Dylan, and Alex Warren. Students build chord fluency, rhythmic accuracy, strumming technique, and confidence performing recognizable songs while continuing to strengthen foundational skills. For students who are interested in playing with others or potentially writing their own songs.

Metal Guitar:

Students pursuing metal guitar develop advanced picking precision, speed control, alternate and economy picking, palm muting technique, riff construction, and scale fluency across the fretboard. Lessons emphasize timing accuracy, endurance, tonal control, and tight rhythmic execution. Students study structured technical exercises alongside genre specific repertoire to build both power and precision while maintaining healthy playing mechanics. For students who prefer "heavier" and more technical sounding music.

Regardless of focus, lessons continue to build fretboard knowledge, rhythmic accuracy, and tone control. Students learn effective practice techniques and gain confidence applying their skills in a variety of musical situations, from solo playing to group settings.

Ongoing instruction supports long-term growth by helping students overcome technical challenges and refine their musical direction. Guitarists gain confidence performing, collaborating, and expressing creativity through music.
